This Book Day, That Book Day: Getting Your Head Round The Book Events Year

On 3rd March this year, it was World Book Day, and I forgot. It went completely out of my noggin! It wasn’t until I saw a post by a friend on Facebook that I realised to my shame and embarrassment that I’d failed to check my book events calendar!

Er, what book events calendar? Check out the internet and you’ll find out that there isn’t a clear-cut calendar available, and the dates are different all over the world. No wonder I can’t remember whether it’s World Book Day, International Book Day, Stick-a-Book-Under-a-Table-Leg-to-Stop-It-Moving Fiction Day…there are too many events to keep track of.

The only one I remember is World Book Night on 23rd April (I suppose it’s called ‘Night’ to differentiate it from ‘Day’!) and that’s only because of a promotion at work a few years ago.

I have therefore decided to create my own Events calendar to help me and any other authors who may want to cherry-pick these days for promotion and marketing. Yes, I know it’s the middle of May, but this is for 2016-2017. Think of it on the same idea as the new footie season when it straddles from one year to the next.
